David's Story I came to know Christ at the age of 7. I understood that I was a sinner and that Christ died for my sins. Since then my life has never been the same. I grew closer in my relationship with God and became more active in my local church serving Him. Then God really started working in me when I was in my high school years. My call to ministry started at church camp when I was in the 10th grade. While we were in chapel listening to the speaker speak about missions, I began to feel that God was calling to missions. I was was blind sided by this because I never thought about being in ministry, let alone be a missionary! I wanted to be a pilot of some sort and had my goals set on that. So I ignored God, for two years. At the same camp 2 years later I still felt this call on my life and I was sitting in chapel again listening to the speaker. He showed us a picture representing the 10/40 window and showing how few missionaries were in these places. This broke my heart for the lost people in this world so right then and there I told God if this is what he wanted me to do the I would follow him! As I began to follow God in this path he had for me I went to Baptist Bible College where I received a bachelor in Intercultural Studies. Now also married I began to start thinking about where I thought God wanted us to be missionaries. I had a plan to go work with a missionary in South America where I had visited before and loved! This is what I would tell people but I would also tell people that we could maybe go to Slovenia as well. I thought this was a cool idea because I am half Slovene. Although I did not really mean it because I knew how hard to the gospel Europeans were and I already had my mind up where I wanted to go. One night in a missions conference, I am sitting up in the choir and I started thinking about Slovenia and "my people" and began to be burdened for them. I was scared to go there but I thought to myself that I am not fully surrendered to Gods will. So right then I prayed to God telling Him if this is what He wanted me to do then I would follow. I felt a peace that I can't explain and since then we have seen God work so much in this direction, affirming in our lives that this is where he wants us to be! I graduated in December 2012 with his Bachelors in Intercultural Studies from Baptist Bible College in Springfield, MO. I volunteered at Cherry Street Baptist Church in Springfield, MO for the last 5 years serving in many different ministries including Young marrieds, GROW outreach, in the Choir, Children’s church and as a leader in the youth group. We moved to Slovenia in June 2016 and continue to see God doing amazing things here! We are currently ministering though one on one Bible studies, mens group Bible study, ladies prayer groups and Good News Clubs with children. We are working towards growing the body of believers here in Koper and to see a church established. |
Malea's Story
I was fortunate to grow up in a Christian home and I accepted Jesus Christ as my savior when I was 4 years old at church. I understood that I was a sinner and asked God to forgive my sins and I believed in Him. My call to ministry happened at an early age as well. I was in the 3 year olds, before I was even saved. It was during our mission’s conference and a couple missionary kids came in our class that were from Columbia. They told us about the beautiful horses they had down there. I loved horses so I decided one day I would become a missionary to Columbia like they were, so I could see the horses. I came home telling my parents I was going to be a missionary. This may seem like a funny story, but honestly, I never strayed from wanting to become a missionary. As I grew older I began to understand just what that meant, and God confirmed his call on my life when I began to travel outside the US. I had the privilege of going on mission trips to Hungary, Brazil, and Costa Rica and even to live in Kenya for 7 months. I loved traveling, seeing new things and meeting believers all over the world, but it also burdened my heart for people around the world in need of the TRUTH and HOPE of the Gospel! God burdened our hearts for Slovenia through David's family heritage. (He is half Slovenian) God has called us to go back to the country his grandparents left so long ago, to share hope with those who have none. I graduated in May 2015 with a Bachelors in Intercultural Studies from Baptist Bible College in Springfield, MO. I also volunteered at Cherry Street Baptist Church in Springfield, MO for the last 5 years serving in many different ministries including Young marrieds, GROW outreach, Children’s church and as a leader in the youth group.
